And the Guild Hall Winners Are . . .
by Jennifer Landes

Guild Hall’s 72nd annual Artists Members Exhibition opened on April 24 and Frank Wimberly was awarded top honors and a future solo show at the museum. Benjamin Genocchio, the awards juror, was an art critic for The New York Times Long Island Metro Section and is now an editor of Art + Auction magazine.

Other awards went to Darius Yektai for best representational painting, Eunice Golden for best abstract painting, Monica Banks for best sculpture, Dan Welden for best work on paper, A.G. Duggan for best mixed media, and Mary Ellen Bartley for best photograph.

Honorable Mentions were given to Dorothy Frankel, Joy Goldkind, Grant Haffner, Penny Kaplan, and Jeanette Martone. The $250 Catherine and Theo Hios Landscape Award was presented to Ty Stroudsburg. William F. Negron was named best new member artist, a new award presented by the Guild Hall Contemporaries to an artist who is new to the exhibit or has not entered in the past five years.

Admission to the exhibit is free. It will be on view through June 5. On May 15, the winners will be in the gallery for a free talk, and on May 17 there will be a lunchtime lecture from 12:30 to 2 p.m. with the artists, also free.
