Gavin Spanierman brings more than 30 years of experience to Spanierman Modern’s new location at 958 Madison Avenue. His philosophy is to spotlight and contextualize the work of accomplished, yet underrepresented, mid to late-career artists; revealing how these hidden figures have advanced the discourse of modernism and art history. Spanierman Modern is pleased to present a roster of prominent artists and estates, including important Color Field, Pop, Minimalist and Abstract Expressionists artists.
A dealer and connoiseur, Gavin began his career at Spanierman Gallery, one of Manhattan’s foremost galleries, founded by his father Ira Spanierman. After serving for many years as director of the Upper East Side stalwart, Gavin became the founding director of Spanierman Modern in 2005. Through these experiences, he has had the honor of working closely with some of the world’s finest museums, auction houses, and private collectors. His resume qualifies him to provide curatorial guidance for those wishing to build a fine personal collection, an investment that will garner esteem, relevance, and value in years to come.
The Spanierman legacy returns to the Upper East Side in a beautiful second floor location at 75th and Madison Avenue. Across the street from the historic Breuer Building, current home of The Frick Collection and future home of Sotheby’s Auction House, Spanierman Modern joins an esteemed and growing art scene. Situated within Museum Mile, Spanierman Modern joins the ranks of the world-class institutions, collections, and galleries the Upper East Side has to offer.
Spanierman Modern seeks to act as a haven for art enthusiasts and collectors alike. The gallery has curated an eclectic stable of artists that deftly navigate the complexities of modern and contemporary abstraction. Contextualizing underrepresented, soon to-be canonized names, such as Sam Middleton and Felrath Hines, alongside artists such as Pablo Picasso and Roy Lichtenstein, Spanierman Modern offers collectors a chance to invest in a contemporary view of the past, diversifying the discourse of art history. In addition, the collection features an exceptional selection of representational artists, including secondary market works by Andrew Wyeth and Wayne Thiebaud.
