Biography

Dan Rizzie (b. 1951) is a painter, printmaker, and collage artist. He draws inspiration from a wealth of sources. His twentieth-century influences include Mondrian, Schwitters, and Malevich while his contemporary influences are Jasper Johns, Cy Twombley, and Brice Marden. Furthermore, His signature style is characterized by flat surfaces depicting silhouettes of natural elements, such as flowers and birds, placed in front of decorative patterns. 

Dan Rizzie was born in Poughkeepsie, New York. He received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Hendrix College and his Master’s of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University. He has exhibited extensively in the United States in group and solo shows. His art can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, along with private corporate collections. He currently lives and works in Sag Harbor, New York.
